Marinatto ousted as head of Big East

Sobota v 5:24
As Temple athletic director Bill Bradshaw sees it, John barbour jacketsMarinatto had one of the toughest conference commissioner jobs around. Perhaps that's why Marinatto resigned Monday after fewer than three years as the Big East Conference commissioner. Joseph Bailey, the managing director of executive recruiting firm RSR Partners and former CEO of the Miami Dolphins, barbour was named the interim commissioner. CBSSports.com and USA Today reported that Marinatto's resignation was forced. The Owls will join the Big East for football beginning with the 2012 season and for all other sports in 2013. In July, the school will officially leavebarbour jacket the Mid-American Conference; it had been a football-only member of the MAC since 2007. "I do believe that he has been commissioner of maybe the most challenging conference in all of the [Football Bowl Subdivision]," Bradshaw said of Marinatto. "The Big East is composed of very high-level basketball and high-level football at the same time. "So his challenge maybe as commissioner may be the most difficult of all of the commissioners." Marinatto became the conference's third commissioner barbour coatswhen he replaced Mike Tranghese on July 1, 2009. During Marinatto's tenure, the Big East dealt with several defections due to conference realignment. West Virginia left for the Big 12. Pittsburgh and Syracuse will leave for the Atlantic Coast Conference as early as 2013. Marinatto, who joined the conference in 2002 as a senior associate commissioner, was criticized by some for his management style and handling of the realignment process. He did, however, also bring in eight new members to keep the league intact. In addition to Temple joining next season, the Big East http://www.shopbarbourjackets.comwill add Boise State and San Diego State for football only for the 2013 season. Memphis, Houston, Southern Methodist and Central Florida will join then as all-sports members. Navy will join the league only for football in 2015.

Excuse me: Gassy dinosaurs helped warm Earth

Sobota v 5:24
WASHINGTON (AP) - Potty humor just got prehistoric. A new study suggests that dinosaurs may have helped keep an already overheated world warmer with their flatulence and burps 200 million years ago. The research published Monday in Currentbarbour jackets Biology suggests that large dinosaurs made a significant contribution to the greenhouse effect back then. Study author David Wilkinson of Liverpool John Moores University in England estimated that about 570 million tons of methane came from dinosaurs. That's similar to total atmospheric levels of methane today produced by livestock, farming and industry. Cows alone now produce nearly 100 tons a year of methane. The study looks at the biggest - and presumably gassiestbarbour - dinosaurs, called sauropods. These were the long-necked plant eaters that munched on the top of trees. They were large animals that had food fermenting in their guts for long periods of time because of their giant size, said University of Maryland paleontologist Thomas Holtz, who wasn't part of the study. Wilkinson said dinosaur gas was just one factor at abarbour jacket time when the world was quite tropical, about 18 degrees warmer than now (10 degrees Celsius). But he said some in the media and blogosphere have misinterpreted his study to say it was the main cause of ancient warming. In a phone interview, Wilkinson said it was only one of the causes, but dinosaur gas "is big enough to be a measurable effect." What caused the ancient pre-human world to be so hot - just the barbour coatsway the dinosaurs needed it - was a variety of factors. Volcanoes spewed much more greenhouse gases than now, Holtz said. Swamps, water currents, shallow seas and plentiful plankton combined to raise greenhouse gas levels far higher than today, he said. Outside climate experts say the study makes some sense, but that the warming from dinosaur gas back then is dwarfed by man-made carbon dioxide today from industry. NASA climate scientist Gavin Schmidt quickly ran some http://www.shopbarbourjackets.comcalculations based on Wilkinson's figures. Dinosaur methane would have hiked temperatures about half a degree (0.3 degrees Celsius), which is a fraction of what's been caused by the burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil in the 20th Century, he said. It's also wrong to suggest the study blames dinosaur flatulence for their extinction, Holtz said. He noted that the sauropods started showing up - and getting gassy - around 200 million years ago and didn't die off until 65 million years ago.

Earthlike planets unlikely in systems with hot Jupiters

Sobota v 5:24
Solar systems with so-called hot Jupiters don't seem barbour jacketsto harbor Earth-sized planets, a discovery that will narrow the search for Earth-like worlds. The reason appears to be that the movements of hot-Jupiter planets - roughly Jupiter-sized planets with orbital periods of about three days - soon after they're formed probably disrupt the formation of Earth-like planets. A team led by Jason Steffen of the Fermilab Center for particle barbourAstrophysics used data from NASA's Kepler mission to examine hot Jupiters and look for smaller planets transiting them. And, of the 63 candidate hot Jupiter systems identified by Kepler, not one had a nearby companion planet - at least, not one big enough to be detected. The situation's quite different, though, when it comes to 'hot Neptunes' or 'warm Jupiters' - Jupiter-sized planets with slightly larger orbits than hot Jupiters. Of the barbour jacket222 hot Neptunes, there were two with possible companions, and of the 31 warm Jupiters, there were three. "The implications of these findings are that systems with Earth-like planets formed differently than systems with hot Jupiters," says Carnegie's Alan Boss. "Since we believe that hot Jupiters formed farther out, and then migrated inward toward their stars, the inward migration disrupted the formation of Earth-likebarbour coats planets. If our sun had a hot Jupiter, we would not be here." GREENSBORO, N.C. - An ex-speechwriter for John Edwards will take the witness stand at the former presidential candidate's corruption trial. Wendy Button is expected to testify Edwards asked her in the http://www.shopbarbourjackets.comsummer of 2009 to help draft a public statement admitting he had an affair and fathered a baby outside his marriage. Edwards reportedly told Button he knew about the nearly $1 million provided by wealthy donors that helped hide his pregnant mistress as he sought the Democratic nomination in 2008, but there were legal reasons he couldn't disclose his knowledge of the cover up.

With Smith as their star, Coyotes make it a night to remember

11. května 2012 v 8:28
On what may go down as one of the finest daysbarbour jackets in the history of the Phoenix Coyotes, captain Shane Doan's first thoughts were for the team's long-suffering supporters. "It's been hard being a Coyotes fan for a few years, so it's nice to win this one at home," Doan told NBC after Phoenix eliminated Nashville with a 2-1 Game 5 victory Monday. "I had friends and family in the stands, so it's nice to win this for all of them." The win was only part of a memorable night that also included newsbarbour that a deal to keep the team in Glendale might be on the horizon. There was no closure to that solution -- more on that in a moment -- but the short term couldn't look any brighter. The Coyotes are going to the Western Conference finals for the first time in franchise history. "We bent, but we didn't break," coach Dave Tippett said. "The guys gave it all they had tonight." It was a franticly paced bout that recalled the Coyotes' Game 6 eliminationbarbour jacket of the Blackhawks in the first round. There was terrific puck pressure from both sides to start, but Nashville slowly began dominating the play, controlling the Phoenix zone and generating better chances than at any point in Game 4. Mike Fisher was able to drive down low for a tough backhand chance. Ryan Suter, playing what might have been his last game for the Predators, almost tallied with an off-balance wrister from the point. But, as was the case throughout the series, goaltender Mike Smith had the answer. He was at his best during a ridiculous series of circumstances on barbour coatsa second-period Nashville power play. Andrei Kostitsyn found himself alone at the end of a 3-on-2 break, but Smith stopped his in-tight wrister. The rebound went to an open Alexander Radulov ... and bounced directly over his stick. It bounced back to Kostitsyn and he was denied by a sliding blocker save. Just one sequence, but to coach Barry Trotz, it symbolized Nashville's failings in the series. "We just didn't bury our chances," Trotz said, his team foiled on 32 of 33http://www.shopbarbourjackets.com shots. "We had enough of them. Their defense, their forwards blocked a lot, but we still had plenty of chances. We just couldn't finish." Trotz pulled out all the stops to spark his offense, constantly fussing with his lines and activating blue liners to create four-man scrums down low. It didn't matter. With Smith being Smith, their fate was sealed.

FOREX-Political uncertainty leaves euro vulnerable

11. května 2012 v 8:28
LONDON, May 8 (Reuters) - The euro fell on barbour jacketsTuesday and was vulnerable to more losses on worries that political uncertainty in Greece and a change of French president could threaten austerity plans seen as key to tackling the euro zone debt crisis. Greece's two main pro-bailout parties failed to win a majority in weekend elections, leaving questions over the country's ability to avert bankruptcy and stay in the euro. Meanwhile, Socialist French president-elect Francois Hollande has barbouradvocated an approach to tackling the debt crisis centred more on growth, which may create tensions with Germany's insistence on fiscal austerity. However, the euro stayed above the previous day's three-month low, hovering just above the $1.30 level, and traders said its losses could be limited as investors take profit on hefty short positions in the currency. Analysts said that some in the market were coming roundbarbour jacket to the view that a mixture of growth and austerity may be necessary to get the euro zoneeconomy back on its feet, given the deep economic problems facing some euro zone countries that have been implementing austerity measures. The euro was down 0.2 percent at $1.3027, above a low of $1.2955 hit on Monday, its weakest level since late January. "The market will be in a wait and see mode and consolidating around $1.30 until we get new indications as to what direction Europe goes from here," barbour coatssaid Audrey Childe-Freeman, global head of currency strategy at JP Morgan Private Bank. She said there was a risk of the euro breaking sustainably below $1.30. However, she said investors were not yet at the point of anticipating that Greece could precipitate a euro zone break-up. The International Monetary Fund showed some new flexibility http://www.shopbarbourjackets.comon Monday over how quickly it would press deeply indebted countries to bring their budgets under control if economic growth weakens, in a sign that the growth rhetoric was gaining momentum. Data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission suggested the euro's falls may be limited as many market players have already taken bearish bets. It showed speculators still held a relatively large net short position in the euro in the week to May 1.

Bond Market Shrugs Off France's Presidential Vote

11. května 2012 v 8:28
The arguments for growth policies as opposed to austerity barbour jacketsare taking center stage in Europe after the results of the French and Greek elections. His rhetoric aside, France's President-elect Francios Hollande is not rejecting austerity. In fact, he pledged to balance France's budget by the end of his five-year term, just one year later than his opponent outgoing President Nicolas Sarkozy. That's one reason the bond market reaction to Hollande's victory was a yawn. Jacob Kirkegaard, a fellow at the Peterson Institute for International barbourEconomics, says the market correctly perceived that the president-elect is not going to embark on some huge stimulus program in France. Kirkegaard says that's likely to disappoint many of Hollande's supporters. "Because he has led them to believe that he is going to usher in this new era of spending and the end of austerity through his barbour jacketrhetoric, but I think the reality is very, very different," Kirkegaard says. Never-the-less, Kirkegaard says Hollande will push Europe to add a growth component to its strategy. "Which is something that in recent weeks Angela Merkel and other German leaders have been positive about," he says. Strategies For Solvency The growth strategies being considered, however, barbour coats don't involve boosting government spending at the member state level. Rather, they involve growth-friendly moves like reforming labor regulations, to make it easier for workers to cross borders and work anywhere in the EU. Other strategies include expanding the European Investment Bank, and funding infrastructure projects with bonds backed jointly by all EU countries, buthttp://www.shopbarbourjackets.com most importantly Germany. "What I agree with is that Europe cannot solve its problems through austerity alone," says Mohamed El-Erain, CEO of the giant bond fund PIMCO. He's concerned about too little growth in Europe, but also about too much debt.

Buffett Says Berkshire Will Top $34 Billion Railroad Deal

10. května 2012 v 5:58
Warren Buffett, who built Berkshire barbour jackets Hathaway Inc. (BRK/A) into a $200 billion company through stock picks and acquisitions, said his firm may top its largest deal, the 2010 purchase of railroad Burlington Northern Santa Fe. "Berkshire will continue to grow," Buffett, 81, said in an interview for Bloomberg Television's "In the Loop" program with Betty Liu after barbourthe firm's May 5 shareholders meeting in Omaha,Nebraska. "Someday, $34 billion will not be the limit." Record earnings at Berkshire's largest units have helped build the company's cash holdings to $37.8 billion. Buffett told shareholders at the meeting that he recently passed on a deal valued at about $22 billion after barbour jacket failing to agree on price. The billionaire, who has kept the cash hoard above $20 billion to guarantee liquidity, said that such a deal would have meant divesting some securities he didn't want to sell. Buffett and Berkshire Vice Chairman Charles barbour coats Munger, 88, took questions for five hours at Omaha's CenturyLink Center on topics such as succession and U.S. politics, and companies including Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) He sketched out some of the roles he envisioned for the next generation of Berkshire leaders, who will oversee a $120 billion portfolio of stocks and bonds and allocate capital among more than 70 operating units. Buffett said last month that he was diagnosed with stage http://www.shopbarbourjackets.com 1 prostate cancer and that he would undergo radiation therapy starting in July. He said at the meeting that the diagnosis is a "minor event" and that he feels "terrific." Some investors said they hope Buffett remains Berkshire's chairman and chief executive officer for years and continues holding the annual meetings, which draw tens of thousands of people.

10. května 2012 v 5:58

That sent Japanese stocks tumbling, pushing the Nikkei down 2.8% to its lowest level since Feb. 15. GOP leaders start to rally around Romney _ sort of

10. května 2012 v 5:58
Republican party leaders are starting to rally around Mitt Romney, but it's not exactly a stampede of support for the expected GOP presidential nominee. With Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich out of the race, Romney barbour jackets is his party's pick to take on President Barack Obama this fall, barring a catastrophe. While Romney talks like the nominee, the former Massachusetts governor has work to do to round up enough convention delegates to make it official. Romney has 856 delegates, according to The Associated Press count. That's 288 short of the 1,144 he needs to win the nomination. Romney could get about 100 delegates from barbour Tuesday's primaries in North Carolina, Indiana and West Virginia, if he dominates the voting in all three states. But unless he persuades a lot more Santorum and Gingrich delegates to switch allegiances, Romney might not clinch until the Texas primary May 29. On Sunday, Romney lost 11 delegates to Texas Rep. Ron Paul when Paul's supporters won control of the Maine GOP convention barbour jacket and elected Paul delegates to the party's national convention. Romney is "the projected candidate," said Peggy Lambert, a member of the Republican National Committee from Tennessee who endorsed Romney last week. "Let's go ahead and get this thing over with. Let's get as many delegates as we can." Santorum and Gingrich have said they will help Romney barbour coats defeat Obama, but neither has released his delegates to vote for Romney at the national convention in August. Santorum has 257 delegates and Gingrich has 130. In interviews during the past week, many delegates said they were reluctant to back Romney without guidance from their former candidates. Paul is the only other Republican still in the race, and he has 94 delegates. Many committee members are getting behind Romney, though some are half-hearted about it. These party leaders _ three from each state and U.S. territory _ automatically attend http://www.shopbarbourjackets.com the national convention and, in most states, can support any candidate they choose. They will be asked to donate, volunteer and work for Republican candidates up and down the ticket, making their support for Romney an important barometer of enthusiasm and unity among GOP loyalists.

Polls favor Hollande in French elections

9. května 2012 v 7:48
PARIS - France wound up a long andbarbour jackets rancorous presidential campaign Friday with opinion polls predicting victory for Francois Hollande, the Socialist candidate who promises economic stimulus measures to soften the austerity cutbacks imposed by President Nicolas Sarkozy during the European debt crisis. Sarkozy, a business-oriented conservative battling forbarbour a second five-year term, told his followers in a final rally that the race was not over despite what the polls and political commentators said. Political specialists explained that he was counting on a bloc of undecided voters - estimated at up to 10 percent of the electorate - to tip the balance in his favor at the last minute before Sunday's runoff ballot. Hollande, also citing the danger of the undecided vote, barbour jacketappealed to his backers in a broadcast interview not to become complacent. "The polls are there, and they show a closing of the gap,'' he said in a radio appearance. "So I say to all those who want me to be the next president, don't let others decide in your place.'' KIEV (Reuters) - Ukrainian prosecutors have found nobarbour coats proof of alleged beating by prison guards of jailed opposition politician Yulia Tymoshenko, prosecutor general Viktor Pshonka said on Friday. Tymoshenko, a former prime minister and opponent of President Viktor Yanukovich, said last week prison guards beat her during a forced visit to a hospital and her supporters circulated photographs showing bruises on her arms and abdomen. The allegation alarmed Western politicians who consider her ahttp://www.shopbarbourjackets.com political prisoner. But Pshonka said his office was unable to verify her claims. "Following an investigation, the request to launch a criminal case has been denied," he told reporters.
